I showed an early interest in art which I attribute to many branches of the family tree producing artists. Most influential perhaps was my Grandmother who was prolific in both oils and watercolors and dabbled in clay.

In 1980 I received my BFA in Printmaking and Painting and also left school with a keen interest in Fiber Art that I discovered during my last year of classes. Over the years I moved many times with my military husband and children and my ever-expanding stash of fiber equipment and materials. For nearly 20 years my interest was primarily in weaving, spinning, dyeing and felt making with an occasional painting thrown in here and there.

It wasn't until moving to Fredericksburg in the fall of 2004 that I began painting again in earnest. I jumped back into oils with both feet but recently I have rediscovered a love for watercolor. I have discovered the technique of mounting them on canvas and treating them with a UV Polymer varnish so that they do not have to be covered with glass. The colors jump off the canvas and it is a perfect foil for additional multi-media techniques. I am still actively weaving and have recently fallen in love with silk painting which you can see on my silk scarves. I have also added polymer jewelry to my list of interests and am pretty sure there are new discoveries awaiting me just around the corner. I am constantly amazed at the well-spring of support that flows through Fredericksburg's art community and contend that this is what makes it so easy and so conducive to be creative. Artists supporting Artists -- a little piece of art heaven!

"For me, creating a piece of artwork is a pure form of communication from the artist to the viewer. It really doesn't matter what the viewer's interpretation of the piece is, or whether as the artist I agree, as long as it speaks!"
